HTC One Supply Could Stall Due To Lack Of Ultrapixel Camera Parts

The new HTC One is due to launch in the UK, with the U.S. soon to follow. But a new report suggests that a lack of key ultrapixel camera sensor components could disrupt supply of HTC’s newest, hottest smartphone.

The HTC One is set to become the company’s newest flagship device, with a UK release fast approaching. The Android Jelly Bean-running smartphone is set to feature a wide range of new hardware features, but it appears that one of the device’s newest hardware features — the phone’s ultrapixel camera sensor — could slow down production and supply for the HTC one worldwide.

The problem appears to be sourcing of the new camera sensor, which is already in short supply. PC Advisor UK reports:

“We believe the production restraints that UltraPixel faces will severely limit HTC One shipments,” said KGI analyst Kuo Ming-chi.
KGI, a Taiwanese brokerage firm, has slashed its shipment forecast for the HTC One from 4 million units down to 800,000 to 1.2 million because of a ‘production bottleneck’ related to the HTC One’s “voice coil motor (VCM) and compact camera module (CCM) on its UltraPixel camera”.

It appears that the new ultrapixel camera, while an impressive addition to the HTC One, was perhaps not the best hardware upgrade decision for HTC, as production levels of the component have yet to normalize. It remains to be seen if the company will be able to meet demand worldwide as the new HTC is made available.
